Physical Accessibility

Conference Day

The McKimmon Center is part of NC State University and is an accessible building.  There is ample accessible parking designated in the parking lot on the north side of the building close to the accessible entrance.  In the conference hall, 5% of seating will be designated as accessible for wheelchairs and other mobility devices.  Look for the tent cards on the tables.  For more information on accessibility policies at NC State, go to https://accessibility.ncsu.edu/#policies.

Legislative Day

Our tent on Halifax Mall is best accessed from Wilmington Street.  We suggest you use the parking lot that is on Jones Street across from the Archives and History building or arrange to be dropped off on Wilmington Street at Lane Street.

The NC General Assembly lists the following accessibility information for their buildings:

Legislative Building
  • Accessible entrance on Jones Street with an automatic door
  • Elevators serve all levels with controls mounted 42 inches high
  • Benches and seats available for waiting or resting
  • Public gallery designed to accommodate wheelchairs

  • Emergency alarms have visual signals
Legislative Office Building

  • Accessible restrooms are available on all floors

Captioning

CART captioning will be available on Conference Day and will be displayed on the screens above the stage and available to view through mobile devices.  QR codes with the captioning link will be available at each table and at the information desk.

If you have any questions or concerns about captioning at ARTS Day, contact Christine Olson at christine@artsnc.org or 919-834-1411.

Large Print Materials

All printed materials, including our Legislative Leave Behind, will have large print versions available at the Information Table.

If you have any questions or concerns about large print materials at ARTS Day, contact Christine Olson at christine@artsnc.org or 919-834-1411.

ASL Interpretation

We have contacted an organization that provides ASL interpreters and have them on call if requested.  You may request an interpreter for either Conference Day, Legislative Day, or both.  However, due to the shortage of qualified interpreters in the area, they optimally need one month’s notice to ensure they can provide an interpreter.  If you notify us later than that, we will do everything we can to find an interpreter for you but cannot guarantee we will be successful.

If you have any questions or concerns about ASL Interpretation at ARTS Day, contact Christine Olson at christine@artsnc.org or 919-834-1411.

Food Allergies and Dietary Restrictions

Boxed lunches will be served on both days.  Vegetarian, Vegan, and Gluten-sensitive options are available to select on your registration form.  There is also space to let us know about any other allergies or dietary restrictions you have.  We take food allergies very seriously and will work with the caterers to accommodate you.  However, be aware that we are working with commercial caterers with large kitchens and they have not been able to guarantee that there will not be cross contamination.

If you have any questions or concerns about food at ARTS Day, contact Christine Olson at christine@artsnc.org or 919-834-1411.
