Call to Action: Ask your Legislators to Join the Joint Caucus on Arts and Arts Education, Announced in BOTH NC Senate and NC House of Representative

Sen. Deanna Ballard and Sen. Mike WoodardLast night Senator Deanna Ballard (R-Watauga) and Senator Mike Woodard (D-Durham) announced that they will Chair the NC Senate membership of the Joint Caucus on Arts and Arts Education. This bi-partisan caucus will join with its Members from the NC House of Representative, led by Rep. Becky Carney (D-Mecklenburg) and Rep. Jeffrey Elmore (R- Wilkes), and will convene to study and discuss the educational, economic and civic impact of arts education and the arts industry on the state of North Carolina and the lives of its citizens.

Now is the time for ACTION:

Rep. Becky Carney and Rep. Jeffrey ElmoreAsk them to join so they can learn more about the educational, economic and civic impact of the arts and arts education through presentations, resources and performances available only to Arts Caucus Members. You can let them know that on March 26th Arts Caucus Members will be invited to an exclusive Ice Cream Social with arts advocates during ARTS Day 2019 and a performance by Grammy nominated singer-songwriter Tift Merritt. Also, the Chairs of the Joint Caucus on Arts and Arts Education will be addressing the assembled advocates on Halifax Mall in the ARTS Day Pavilion on March 27th.

Membership in the Arts Caucus is not a pledge to support arts funding or any arts education agenda, it is an opportunity for legislators to convene to gain a deeper understanding of the value of the arts in our communities, for our economy, and in the lives of every citizen, especially our children. This caucus will be an effective tool to advocate for the arts in North Carolina and will greatly improve our ability to achieve the goals of our $1 for the ARTS Initiative and advance our work in support of Comprehensive Arts Education.

The work of advocacy is not about fighting the opposition; it is about constant education and forming coalitions. Arts North Carolina is proud to have helped make Joint Caucus on Arts and Arts Education possible, and is grateful to the arts community that has effectively contributed to this conversation, and to our Creative State.Advocate at ARTS Day 2018
