NC AELC Proclaims Arts in Ed Week!
The organizations of the NC Arts Education Leadership Coalition (AELC) have officially proclaimed September 10-16, 2023, as NC Arts in Education Week. This coincides with National Arts in Education Week which the US Congress designated in 2010 to occur during the week beginning with the second Sunday of September. During this week, the field of arts education joins together in communities across the country to advocate, educate, and celebrate about the impact and transformative power of the arts in education.
Arts NC and NC AELC continue to work together to advance arts education policy. This year we worked with legislators on bills to create an Arts Proficiency High School Diploma Endorsement and an arts requirement for all K-5 public school students to receive instruction in both Music and Visual Arts by a licensed educator.
Be sure to check out the resources at both ArtsNC.org and ArtsEdNC.org to help you advocate, educate, and celebrate arts education all year. Use the step-by-step easy-to-use toolkits to encourage your local school board to pass an Arts ARE Education proclamation or engage local candidates on arts education issues by hosting a candidate event or with a candidate survey.
And of course, be sure to take a moment during Arts in Education week to thank an arts educator for their hard work and the tremendous impact they have on our students. Arts NC would like to thank Chuck Stowe of the NC Theatre Arts Educators for his years of leadership with NC AELC and for once again spearheading the initiative for the NC Arts in Education Week proclamation.
